Keeping
track of Birthdays
Have you every tried
to remember all the birthdays in a large and growing
family? I remember the year my wife gave a
precious gift to my grandmother - a beautiful
cross-stitched calendar that listed each descendant
and their birthday! Grandma loved it, but the
first thing she did was secure a commitment from my
wife to keep it up to date. It was amazing how
often names needed to be added to that list, and
while keeping it up to date was a labor of love, it
did take a lot of work.
With a website from
GrandpaTellMe.com,
keeping a list of Birthdays becomes almost automatic (and
updates are quick and painless).
GrandpaTellMe.com
can automatically keep track of the birthdays of all of your
site's members and add them to the calendar, but it is important
to note that this ability is controlled by each member.
GrandpaTellMe.com
will display your birthday on the calendar automatically if you
allow it to (we won't share your information without your
consent). So how do you tell
GrandpaTellMe.com
it is ok to display your birthday on the site calendar?
Nothing to it - here are the steps:
-
Log in to your site, then
click on the "Profile" link in the top-right corner of any
page to go to the "display profile" page.
-
From the "display profile"
page, click on "edit profile" link to change your profile
information.
-
Toward the bottom of the input
fields, check the box titled "Show Birthday on Calendar".
-
Click on the "Update Info"
button at the bottom of the page to save your changes.
That's it! Once you check
that box and save the changes, your birthday will automatically
be displayed on your site calendar. There is no limit to
the number of Birthdays that can be displayed, and each member
can choose whether or not they want their Birthday on the
calendar.

You can record wedding anniversaries, birthdates, or any
important family date with just a few clicks of your mouse.
Here is how:
-
Log in to your site, then
click on the "Calendar" link on the main menu.
From the "Calendar" menu there are
two options, I will explain them both:
Option #1:
-
On the "Calendar" sub-menu,
click on "add event". This will take you directly to
the "add event" page where you can enter your information.
-
If you like, select a category
for your event, or add a new category (categories are
optional - you don't need to use them at all if you prefer).
-
Select the date of the event,
then enter a "title" for your event and if you like provide
event details. The title will be displayed on the
calendar, and if people click on the title, they will see
the event details.
-
If this is an annual,
recurring event (like a Birthday or Anniversary), check the
appropriate box. If you are an advanced user and you
add HTML to your details, check that box as well.
-
Click on the "Add Event"
button to save your changes.
Option #2:
-
From the Calendar display, use
the navigation links to go to the month, day and year of
your event.

to add an event to that date. This will take you to
the "add event" page where you can enter your information.

part of our history. Here are some tips and tricks to help
make it more effective.
-
Start with yourself.
If you want people to display their birthdays on the
Calendar, start by displaying your own. Add some of
the events that you think are important to your family or
group to get things started, then invite others to do the
same. You can post an invitation in the "News"
section to encourage people to contribute.
